Sneak Peek into What Balaklava’s Up To (Hint: It Involves Something for You)
Building a home involves lots of decisions. Let’s stress the word lots. And let’s also raise a tumbler of 15-year-old Redbreast to all of you who have had the “pleasure” of doing so.
Heck, let’s cheer with the whole bottle. You deserve a gold-plated medal and a lengthy trip to Bora Bora. If those aren’t currently in the forecast, then at the very least we grant you bragging rights from now until eternity.
We understand why kudos are well-warranted. Currently, Balaklava’s Show Home outside the hamlet of Holstein is mid-construction. So far, we’ve watched a field of last year’s corn morph into something very different.
What does a Model House mean to you, one of Balaklava’s faithful followers?
The purpose of a Show Home
Have you ever been super excited about an online purchase and sliced open a box to reveal….a shirt that looks more like Medusa-meets-spaghetti-dinner-disaster than what was going to be the hit of the Palm Springs golf getaway?
No one wants bad surprises. Like trying on something in the flesh, a show home eliminates the guessing. Here’s what it offers you:
- 5 Senses
You have the chance to get up close and personal with an actual system and see how it looks. You see, feel, hear, and touch the possibilities.
- Bye Bye Guesswork
Architectural and designer renderings are priceless, and yet they can’t give you a real-world reveal. Walking through and experiencing a space means eradicating uncertainties and speculation.
For example, you know you want window coverings. You don’t want your furniture faded or the people driving by to see what you do in your sanctuary at night. But you’re not sure what motorized shades will look like or how easy they will be to operate.
A simple walk-through can answer questions and help you shout adios to doubts and fears.
Where we’re at
Anyone having driven past the Display Home’s location over the last few months will have noticed many changes. Farmland framed by a rotting, entangled fence is now dotted by mountains of topsoil. A gravel laneway now leads your eyes and your vehicles to the drool-producing windows. Everything from a well to in-floor heating is new.
It’s an understatement to say that Mark Pinder and contractors have been bustling. And we haven’t even begun to talk about the tech offerings that Balaklava is installing.
Think:
- Smart Energy management with Savant Systems,
- Nexus 21 Powered TV lifts,
- wifi and network gear by CIS,
- Provo wiring, cabling, equipment racks and jobsite camera,
- tuneable white, small aperture pot lights from DMF lighting,
- multi colour pot lights and linear lighting from GE lighting/Savant,
- home theatre and surround sound by Paradigm and Anthem Electronics,
- motorized shades from Savant,
- motorized drapery from Somfy and many more.
Then there’s the 200-inch video wall by Lunar Walls/Just Video. Yes, you heard that correctly. Sunday football with life-size images will never be the same.
It will be beyond impressive and likely induce drooling, but there’s more to a Show Home than just the fun techie stuff. After all, what would the building be without a framed structure, steel roof, electricity, plumbing, and many other critical items?
Thanks go out to:
Bye Construction, GMP Concrete, Lyle Pinder and Lang’s Home Energy, Surefire Framing, Northstar Carpentry, Lantz Sprayfoam, Jeff Rogers Carpentry, Luxury Woodworking, Koehler Masonry, Steffen Well Drilling, Curtis Pinder Drywall, Tom Soars Painting and many others.
Forgive us if we haven’t mentioned your name or company. It doesn’t mean you’re any less critical. It just means we’re swimming through decisions and we can’t wait to surface.
Maybe we’ll meet you in Bora Bora?
